Spice Trade Mittens Take Two

I decided to make another pair of my Spice Trade Mittens to use these two beautiful colours. I love using Knit Picks Palette heather shades. They are so beautiful. This pair of mittens pairs the Sagebrush colour with Tidepool Heather.

These mittens are inspired by the rich colours of the spices once used for commerce in the ancient spice trade. The motifs used are a tribute to patterns found within Middle Eastern art.

This pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter with some experience working with charts and knitting in the round. Designer tips are provided for those who are new to stranded colourwork. The right and left hand mittens are identical with the same pattern on the top of the hand and the palm for each mitten.

Buds of Spring Mitten Pattern Just Released

My newest pattern is now available on Ravelry.

These mittens are inspired by the pops of green that sprout when trees begin to bud, while the memory of snow is still fresh in our minds. The lace motif of a budding tree in the cuff is echoed in the stranded pattern on the top of the hand. Combining the delicacy of lace with the grounded substance of stranded colourwork results in a mitten that is perfect for wearing on a chilly spring evening.

This pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter with some experience working with charts and knitting in the round. The lace cuff has a simple garter stitch border or optional Latvian braids. Designer tips are provided for those who are new to stranded colourwork.

Another pair of All the Reindeer Mittens

The final item on my 2015 Christmas knitting list was this pair of All the Reindeer Mittens. They made it to my family gathering yesterday and went home with my niece who I know will use them and love them. Always fun to see knitting make it to someone who appreciates it.

All The Reindeer Mittens Available For Purchase

These mittens are inspired by all of the reindeer that are famous at Christmas. Each mitten has eight reindeer to represent the original eight, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen, as well as one larger reindeer to represent Rudolph, who saved Christmas. A few optional duplicate stitches highlight Rudolph’s nose.

Celtic Inspired Mittens using Knit Picks Chroma

I've just finished knitting up my Celtic Inspired Mittens pattern, using Knit Picks Chroma yarn.

I love how the colours turned out and how the mittens are different, yet complement each other.

Autumn Snow Mittens Available for Purchase

My newest pattern was published on Ravelry today!

These mittens are inspired by the first snowfall of the year that often comes in autumn, when the leaves have turned and their colours are still brightly laying on the ground. The first dusting of snow is always a beautiful sight as it sparkles down.

The pattern takes advantage of the subtle transitions of colour in Knit Picks Chroma, colour-transitioning, fingering weight yarn, shown in Vermont/Natural. This gives the mittens the effect of being knit with several different colours of yarn, when in fact only two colours of yarn are required.

The pattern will also show off the snowflakes beautifully when knit with two solid-colour yarns, using Knit Picks Palette in Clove Heather/White.
